About Bulbul Sarkar
For the past 15 years, Bulbul Sarkar, who hails from the Sonajhuri region in West Bengal, has been creating beautiful and contemporary kitchenware and accessories from the locally abundant acacia and coconut trees.
Bulbul is 38-years-old, but he doesn’t look much older than 30. He used to work for a large company that exported his creations to different countries around the world until he decided it was time to become an entrepreneur. His father, who used to make wooden furniture, played an important part in putting him on the road to this trade. He and his father expanded on the ideas they had while working for others and decided to do things themselves.
Bulbul works with his father and two brothers, Joydeep and Debu, mainly. He also has a wife and a six-year-old son.
His work has been appreciated by Indian and international audiences. Blurring the boundary between art and function, they are great additions to kitchens and dining rooms everywhere. He attributes this critical appreciation to his hands and believes they are his most valuable tools.
Bulbul’s handcrafted products are now available exclusively on Engrave.
