Rs.1,050.00

Availability: In stock

The piece is completely handcrafted by the rural womenfolk of the West Bengal state of India which makes this almost a piece of art. These stunning reversible Kantha big sized stoles or shawls in silk cotton are handsewn with multicoloured patterns on both sides. Different printed fabric patches of old silk sarees are first washed and treated and then intricately attached and stitched all around using colourful threads with the running Kantha stitch lines. The stole is reversible, so the owner gets 2 for the price of one. The varying patterns, handwork and use of recycled fabrics truly makes this a designer creation. Because they are made by patchwork of assorted pieces and patterns, no two pieces will be the same. Therefore, every piece is unique.

About Kantha Embroidery

Kantha comprises of the simplest stitch in the language of embroidery - the running stitch. Originally it was used to join layers of old saris, to make quilts and was used as a means of self-expression by both urban and rural women in Bengal. The remarkable Kantha needlework is purely spontaneous folk expression of personal desire and emotion of the rural woman belonging to different region, ethnic, and religious groups. As every human being is different from other – so is the Kantha stitch craft... they are never alike.
