Meet the Maker: Deepika Mittal – Isaaka

We chat with Deepika founder of Isaaka, a home décor brand that offers unique and eclectic pieces of utility art and objects décor that spark up your home with imagination.

What is Isaaka? Isaaka is a home décor brand that offers unique and eclectic pieces of utility art and objects décor to spark up your home with imagination. Isaaka is located in Bangalore and NCR. And Isaaka is the dynamic and energetic quartet of Deepika, Vikas, Sakshi, and Rakesh. We spoke to Deepika about Isaaka. You are invited to get to know them better. Welcome.

What were you doing before you started doing this?

Since 1993 I have been managing my husband’s business of Equestrian Garments devoted to pioneer manufacturer from India and determined to make our mark and create a niche market segment.

Why did you choose to do what you do?

I realized it was time to mark my individual journey with the support of my wonderful family. Having the knack of finding unique items for my home I came to the conclusion that my passion lay in home décor and interiors.

Seeing the market gap especially in WALL ART segment, I formed Isaaka, which now aims to offer a wide range of Home Décor Accessories not seen anywhere else.

Our products bring a sense of individuality through each of our unique designs.

We aim to connect a sense of personal feeling through our pieces, whether you are a sports person, a nature lover, a traveller or a workaholic, we have something for you that will strike a personal touch with your character, which is ultimately what your home is.

We are fascinated by names. What’s the story behind your brand name?

ISAAKA is three parts. The I stands for individuality that is reflected through our designs. SAAKA is an acronym for two names, SAKSHI, my daughter and DEEPIKA. It is our joint creative endeavour that we started.

Sakshi is a self-taught painter who works on handmade paintings for ISAAKA.

Which are your best selling products?

Of three launched collections of WALL ART, we have the best sellers. The Cherry Blossom Wall Art from ROHA collection, Two Wheel Story (Cycle) Wall art from YAAD collection and Butter, Music, Love (Krishna) Wall art from Divine Collection.

From the Garden Gnomes, we have had a great response for the Squirrel planter and various other Gnomes.

What kind of people do you create your products for?

Isaaka is for anybody who loves their home and wants to add a sense of their own individuality and character to it.

Be it kids, college students, young homemakers or matured couples, we create designs suiting to individual personality traits making it appealing to a large target audience.

What are the challenges you face in connection with achieving your goals?

Being new, we have limited sources to market. Not having a retail store in the heart of the city is a challenge. Partnering with known home décor labels is a challenge since they don’t agree to promote our brand but want to buy our products and sell under their name.

All that being said, we are extremely excited to partner up with online e-commerce channels like Engrave who promote small-scale businesses and give them unique brand representation.

Where do you see your brand three years from now?

We see ourselves available offline and online with a wide collection of not just wall art, lamps, garden décor, and paintings, but also more decorative accents and furniture. We see ourselves as a one-stop solution for your home décor and furnishing needs.

What would you be doing if you weren’t doing this?

NOTHING ELSE! I could not have imagined not doing this. This is my passion and this is what I will continue to build!
