Meet the Maker: Nishma Verma Singhal – Zoivane Men

Meet Nishma Verma Singhal whose brand Zoivane makes natural grooming products for men with a conscience.

Contrary to popular belief, many men do like to take care of themselves. Many of these many men also prefer to do it with natural grooming products that don’t damage the environment. Zoivane Men is for these caring, well-turned out, smart men with a conscience. Located in Delhi and Surat, Zoivane Men’s team consists of Nishma Verma Singhal, Jaishree Satayisia, Ravindra Dubey, and Dipti Singhal. And on that brief introductory note, let’s meet the founder, Nishma, and brand Zoivane Men.

What were you doing before you started doing this?

I (Nishma) was working in Germany in the R&D department of BASF.

Why did you choose to do what you do?

I love skin care. As a child, I used to use take all the creams present on my mother’s dressing and create altogether different products by mixing natural ingredients into them. That passion for cosmetics continued and when I got the opportunity to study and work in the same field, I took the plunge and founded Zoivane Men.

We are fascinated by names. What’s the story behind your brand name?

Well I pursued my master’s in business management (MBM) from University of Padova, Italy and I absolutely loved the warmth and culture of Italian people. Zoivane is inspired from word ‘Giovane,’ which means young and youthful in Italian. My love for Italy led us to picking Zoivane as our brand name.

Which are your best selling products?

All our products have their fans, but there’s one in particular – Smoker’s Paradise lip balm – that sells like hot cakes.

What kind of people do you create your products for?

Working educated urban men who care about grooming and are caring enough to choose superior earth friendly products that don’t harm the environment.

Where do you see your brand three years from now?

Well, three years is too short a time-frame as far as I’m concerned. I’m looking at 10 years in which to become a brand so recognizable in India that if about 50 people are standing in a room, at least 10 of them would be familiar with ZOIVANE MEN.

What would you be doing if you weren’t doing this?

Well, not much, I think. Since my 18th year, I have devoted almost all my time to the study of cosmetics. I studied cosmetics and perfumery as an undergraduate and in my post graduation. After this, I invested 11 years of my life as a professional in this field. Put simply, this is my life and I don’t have a plan B.
