Sounds enticing? You bet it does! So without further ado, let’s dive into the colorful world of Urban Pattang. Welcome.

Please describe your brand in not more than 10 words

Urban Pattang is a fun, quirky, and colourful home decor brand with India at its heart.

Where are you located?

New Delhi

How many (if more than one) members make up your team?

We are two sisters, Parul Nauhwar – 38, and Shubhani Gupta Shukul – 30

Parul has been playing an epochal role in the marketing, events and lifestyle industry for over a decade. She has a diversified experience in media, travel, events and lifestyle industry. Her passion towards the creativity and love for Indian art makes this venture very close to her heart. Her list of credentials includes the conceptualisation and execution of the first ever Miss India Calendar for The Times of India. Urban Pattang is her dream project and she has committed herself to it.

Shubhani, is a mass communications post graduate from Delhi. She has worked with the media industry for almost a decade. Shubhani has a great sense of colour and is extremely creative. Her passion for art bundled with her entrepreneurial instincts acted as a catalyst for both the sisters to take the leap and start Urban Pattang.

What were you doing before you started doing this?

Just like most of us, we, too, were a part of the boring corporate world.

We are fascinated by names. What’s the story behind your brand name?

This part wasn’t easy. We have gone around a long list of names and finally settled on Urban Pattang.

The way kites wing their way up in the sky within seconds, dance uninhibitedly with the wind up above and make the sky look like a palette of colours always fascinated us. We don’t think anything else could have symbolised our expression better than these lovely, colourful, carefree kites. And yes, since the objective is to bring back a bit of India into modern homes and today’s big cities, Urban Pattang is the way we chose to fly.

Which are your best selling products?

Mr Don-key (Toothpick Holder), Lambu ji Bowls, Bell the billi, Super owl, Bastar Spoon Holder, Khadi Khatiya, Tawa Tawa Loge, Pattangey Wall Art and Sil dil (Sil Batta).

What kind of people do you create your products for?

It’s for everyone interesting. Urban Pattang is not just a company or just a mere internet page trying to sell products and force ideas into your home. What you see here is made with a lot of love and imagination.

Our endeavor is to usher in lovely memories into your lives through products that will take you back in time where you will reminisce about the good old days when everything had a tinge of Indian-ness to it. Well, we are ready to welcome all those things back into our lives….but…with a twist.

In an age when technology runs our world and everything around us is plastic, we’re trying to get back to basics with our product line which is inspired by Indian art and culture. What we want to do in Urban Pattang is to bring those fantastic artworks to your home with an urban makeover.

What are the challenges you face in connection with achieving your goals?

Starting up a business isn’t easy. It requires a lot of patience, perseverance hard work, new ideas, dealing with the constant stress of performing well, and the need to retain a positive attitude every day.

Where do you see your brand three years from now?

Our vision is to create a brand which is popular as well as is seen as representing Indian art forms on global platforms. While there is a lot of appreciation for Indian art forms in the west, it’s important that these creative art forms find a tremendous market closer home in our urban cities as well. With Urban Pattang we want to create a solid awareness about this range in our Indian marketplace. Fingers crossed, we’d like to see it flying high and higher.

What would you be doing if you weren’t doing this?

Well, we haven’t thought about that. However, we have always been creative and we’d have figured out something creative to do. ☺
