“Creative Corner is an idea that inspires me to touch the lives of my customers with my creativity. I am from Siliguri, a beautiful city situated at the northern part of West Bengal. So far Creative Corner has only one employee and that is me.” – Sanghamitra Mahanti, Founder, Creative Corner. Let’s get to know her Corner better.
What were you doing before you started doing this?
I was and still am homemaker. I am also a Mother.
Why did you choose to do what you do?
A spare kettle, my love for art, and my daughter’s activity one fine morning gave me the idea for my first product – a girl running after a butterfly. Once I had created that, something magical happened to me. I began to feel the need to do more with my life. It was as if I had been waiting all my life for this one moment of inspiration. It changed my life. Put simply, I choose to do this because I love the process of making my products and the satisfied reactions they elicit from my customers.
We are fascinated by names. What’s the story behind your brand name?
I always loved to decorate my home with innovative things and ideas. This the spark and passion that ignited the idea of converting my hobby into a business. Basically the corners of my home inspired me to become creative, hence the name Creative Corner.
Which are your best selling products?
Decorative Kettle – A girl running after a butterfly.
Decorative Kettle – Warli painting on kettle.
Handcrafted nameplate for home
Wooden Chopping Board
What kind of people do you create your products for?
I put my heart and soul into every product. Naturally, I believe my work appeals to people who are interested in decorating their spaces with objects and subjects that are innovative and creative.
What are the challenges you face in connection with achieving your goals?
Since I am a homemaker and mother, the biggest challenge is to manage time for my work. I make all my products myself. This takes a lot of time and effort.
Where do you see your brand three years from now?
3 years from now, I aspire to start my own art studio with a small team that can help me bring to life certain ideas that are bigger and require more resources to fructify.
What would you be doing if you weren’t doing this?
I love photography, so if not this I might have been a photographer.
