Meet the Maker: Shabia and Ravi Walia – Wild Earth

Meet Shabia & Ravi Walia, founders of natural skincare brand Wild Earth that produces exotic bath and body products that are handmade and free from harmful chemicals.

Wild Earth is a natural skincare brand of exotic bath and body products that are handmade and free from harmful chemicals. They are located in Mumbai and have an online, retail presence all over India. We spoke to the co-founder (Shabia Walia) to get a better understanding of Wild Earth’s journey. You are cordially invited to get to know this earth-friendly and unique brand better.

Wild Earth comprises four members in Marketing, two in Warehousing, and two Directors – Shabia Walia and her husband Ravi Walia. Last but far from the least, they have an enthusiastic team of sales girls who sell their products at various stores in and out of Mumbai. And on that short introductory note, over to you, Shabia!

Engrave (E): What were you doing before you started doing this?
I was a media professional for 24 years. Creating content, writing, producing, and direction have all been a part of my media portfolio. I have also authored the bestselling book Mamma Mania which is the story of my daughters journey into this world.

E: Why did you choose to do what you do?
After having excelled in media and creating content for others, my heart ached to have something of my own, a legacy I could leave behind for my daughter while watching her grow up.

Media has been great to me but the schedules were erratic and I had to depend on others to make time for my daughter. I decided to change that by becoming my own boss so that I could create my own schedules and see both my baby and business grow together.

E: We are fascinated by names. What’s the story behind your brand name?
We were originally called Tattva which means Essence of Nature. But when we went global, we encountered issues with the trademark. That’s when we changed to Wild Earth.

Also, the fact that our products are made of the best of ingredients from earth and nature, and that we celebrate the inner beauty that is wild, pure, and uninhibited made us opt for the name Wild Earth.

E: Which are your best-selling products?
Our Ginger Lime Shampoo, Rose Honey Face & Body Wash and our lip balms

E: What kind of people do you create your products for?
Our products are for anyone who wants natural, paraben and sulphate free bath and body products created by hand and mixed with love.

Anyone who values their own health and loves handmade things will take to Wild Earth in more ways than one.

Anyone who loves nice smelling, feel good products and is concerned about nature, our environment, and the effects harsh chemicals have on us and the ecosystem; our products are for them.

E: What are the challenges you face in connection with achieving your goals?
We are expanding into newer markets every three months. This is a challenge. Then, managing cash flow and finding the right people is a challenge. Finally, handling labour and logistics, balancing accounts and taxation are always challenging for a creative soul.

E: Where do you see your brand three years from now?
I see Wild Earth as a global entity having brand presence all over India and abroad. We see it being counted as one of the best natural brands in the world. We are expanding our presence in retail, not only in speciality stores but also beauty chains like Health and Glow. We export to Philippines and soon will be available in Dubai and London as well. We are trying to augment our product line too. All this is driven by popular demand and continuing love from our loyal customers.

E: Finally, what would you be doing if you weren’t doing this?
I would be writing a book, making and selling fish in my own little shack by the sea in Bodrum, Turkey.
